My husband and the boys went to see the comedian, Lewis Black tonight. That was his Father's Day present. Megan had to work so I was the only babysitter. The guys left a little after 5pm and I gave Karlie her supper, letting her feed herself most of it. Afterward, I gave her a much needed bath and dressed her in a cute little outfit I had gotten for her for her birthday and she'd never worn. Her sandal buckle was broken and I couldn't find clean socks so I left her barefoot and off we went...to ToysRUs. Over $300 later, we were on our way home. For the record, I am not always buying her things. I pretty much save it up and blow it all at once.
She's starting to be a little girl instead of a "baby" baby. She's been putting her soft dolly on one of her push toys and pushing it around so I got her a doll high chair and pack n play and stroller. I also got her a stuffed elephant and Walden and Widget to go with her Wubbzy (characters from a kids show that she likes). A few outfits, three pairs of sneakers, two pairs of sandals and a pair of slippers later and we were done. Oh no! Wait! I also bought a toilet seat lock because her new thing is trying to stick her hand in the toilet. I also bought her a potty chair. It's a little early but I always started with my kids at a young age just to get them used to the seat.
She's not really talking yet. I mean, she's "talking", we just don't understand Karlie-speak. So far, no real words. Except...if I ask her if she wants to go outside, she will say "owsah" and head to the back door. She understands things pretty well and if you ask her if she wants to go bye-bye, she'll head to the front door and she knows the difference between asking if she wants to go bye-bye and when you're telling her bye-bye. When you tell her bye-bye, she waves. She also tries to put her shoes on by herself and a ton of other things that she tries to do or does that amaze me because I still sometimes think of her as this tiny little baby. Did my own kids really grow this fast? I'm sure they did. Especially since I remember some things so clearly and then realize that the things I'm remembering are from twenty odd years ago.
Life truly is short. [sigh]
