Somehow I got mixed up, thinking that my summer school training started tomorrow... and I only found out it started today at about 12 pm. And it was ending at 1 pm.
Thankfully, my supervisor is nice and accepted my apologies. I'm almost always late to social events, but never late to work ones. especially not 4 hours late. Now I feel a bit lost though, even though I taught summer school last year. Hopefully I'll get to catch up tomorrow.
I found out that I'll get two student teachers, who have been doing some alternative certification program. I had two last year, but this summer I'll get paid.... 500 bucks on top of my extra pay for teaching. !!
It's kinda a pain in the ass to have student teachers, but it can be fun too. I like teaching so much that it's fun to be around other people who are into it too. Maybe that's why most of my best friends are all teachers, or about to be.
Last year, I had one student teacher who was pretty good, but the other had a lot of problems. I had very little behavior problems, but as soon as he sat down to teach my group, the students would poke each other, fall asleep, and stop working. It was really, really hard to watch. I kept on wanting to jump in and save him... but I knew I couldn't. Also, his lessons weren't very effective. Eventually, his supervisor told me that I had to be honest with him, and we discussed how much difficulty he was having. On the last day, he decided he should probably try to get a teaching assistant position and try again next year. I hope that doesn't happen again this year... it's too disheartening to feel like you're destroying someone's dreams with your honesty.
In other news, my laptop was broken and now it's fixed (except for the enter key, which is missing...but I do like my computers a bit ghetto). So now I'm sitting out in the night with crickets. It makes me happy, actually. I've been thinking of when to go back to spiderhouse or cafe caffeine. I like typing and reading random things in coffeeshops with lots of people to look at.
I'm strangely looking forward to summer school. I'll get finished at 1pm every day, so that leaves me plenty of time to take naps and go swimming and walking and drink coffee in coffeeshops and exercise, a lot.
p.s. my 29th birthday is in 15 days. weird.
