Whaleys Home

Yesterday I had a really amazing opportunity to help some really deserving people! I am a member of the Flint Kiwanis and we own and maintain a Whaley's Children Home in Flint. There are five boys that live there ages 13 to 17. They have shifts of "mothers" that come take care of them. Their are always two adults in the home with them at a time. At one time or another in their lives they were either taken away or given up by their families. It breaks my heart because they are such amazing kids! So yesterday we started redoing their home. I did yard work all day. It totally kicked my ass! I was so tired I slept 14 hours last night! We are also redoing their bathroom and going to create an awesome rec room in the basement! yay! Even though we have did some work I really want to call EXTREME MAKEOVER and have them redo it all! It would be so awesome if they could redo bunches of houses for deserving people in Flint. EXTREME MAKEOVER-Flint Town!

I really hate that these kids have not been given all of the opportunities in life I have. I am going to start trying to get really involved with the kids. What they really need though is some great male role models. I am pretty sure there are some men in the Kiwanis who can step up to that role. It has really made me think about the kids in foster care and other programs. What happens to them when they turn 18? I really hope they get some sort of schlorships for college. hm..........

Anyways....I am so glad I got involved with Kiwanis. It is such a great organization and I am so proud to be a part of it! It has always helped me to meet some really successful people who inspire me to be amazing!
