bandwidth.

alright. if you've been watching my icon journal for a while, there's a good chance that, at least once, you've tried to view a post and the icons wouldn't load. no red Xs... they just never loaded.

i emailed my server about it and my suspicions were confirmed: it's most likely due to crazy bandwidth. now, i don't have any bandwidth charges with my server (activewebhosting.net), but hey, everyone needs to rest, including my server.

i wouldn't think that i'm getting a ton of views on my icon posts, and i've been trying not to make the same post over and over in various communities; that is, i've recently been posting some previews and then linking to the entry on my own journal~ something that i'm not crazy about, but i've had to start doing. from now on, i'll probably be doing it almost all the time. sorry; i know it's inconvenient and annoying, but i really have to tone down my bandwidth. i may possibly also start saving my icons at a slightly lower quality .JPG or .PNG instead of super-high quality .JPGs, even though each icon is still way under 40k. i really don't know at the moment.

so please... if i find you hotlinking my icons (especially from those "icon journals" at xanga/etc where you post STOLEN ICONS), i will hand you your butt in a can. it's not the fact that i have to pay for it, because, in my case, i don't have to pay for bandwidth. it's because you're slowing down my server when you direct-link my stuff. UPLOAD THEM TO YOUR OWN SERVER, like photobucket.com or something similar.

anyways. another change i'll probably be making is to not make as many large posts. i don't usually like making a ton of smaller posts, and i often wind up making large batches, but i'm going to have to post them with no more than 20 icons per post, i think.

i have no idea how many people view my icons. the only indicator i have is by the comments i get, and those are conflicting evidence~ on a couple of my posts, i have 30+ comments. on others, i'm lucky to get five. heck if i know how many "hits" each entry gets!

just... please use your brain and don't overload my server's bandwidth. and if you see that the icons aren't showing up, please don't leave me a comment about it unless it's been that way for days. trust me, i've almost certainly noticed already and getting ten comments that tell me about a problem i can't fix are frustrating and annoying. thank you for letting me know but... i already know. ^^;

meh. sorry for the insanely long babbling.
