Why the new planning meetings will fail (as though no one saw this)
Planning team leader: I need to set up a day for us to meet. How does Thursday, Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. in the Neptune conference room sound? I expect it'll probably last about an hour. Please let me know whether this works for you. We've got people who work varying shifts and different bureaus, so we're trying to accommodate everyone.
Me: Thursday will work for me.
PTL: OK. It might wind up having to be another day, as Thursday isn't great for one or two people. Any particular days and times that are bad?
Me: That week, Monday I have a 6 p.m. cancer cluster meeting in TR and Tuesday I'm covering the Jackson school referendum (and have a 11.30 meeting here.) Anything around those two events can work - Tuesday the polls close at 9.
There are 10 people total on this team. What are the odds that 10 people can agree on a time and date?
And since we all have mandatory Digital 2010 responsibilities - I may just say "No can do, will be in Haiti blogging about RCI's decision to continue visiting Labadee" or "No can do, will be in Northern Europe when the newest cruise ship from such-and-such launches, for my blog entry on how the cruise industry is for the most going ahead with its ships despite a continuing lackluster economy."
