Number of fics written: 3
Total word count: around 5k (maybe 6k if you include drabbles, which I didn’t take into account for the purpose of this meme)
Overall Thoughts
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Definitely less. I mean, I’m a slow writer and I don’t necessarily write a lot, but last year was a good year so I was hoping this year would be good as well.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Hm, nothing I guess. I haven’t really stepped outside of my comfort zone this year. Writing felt like a challenge in the first place, so I guess I didn’t really push it.
What's your own favorite story of the year?
That’s a tough one. Maybe Time & Distance. I write a lot of get together and alternate universe fic so this one felt a little different. It was a fun dynamic to write!
Did you take any writing risks this year?
Not really. As mentioned above, I haven’t really stepped outside of my comfort zone. It’s not that I’m completely opposed to it, but since I don’t write a lot I do have a tendency to write ridiculously self-indulgent fic. That’s my excuse. XD
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
Write more? Yeah, hopefully I can write more in 2016.
From my past year of writing, what was...:
My best story of this year: Time & Distance
My most popular story of this year: Time & Distance
The story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: None XD I'm always a little surprised when people want to read my fic. It makes me happy. <3
The most fun story to write: Time & Distance
The story with the single sexiest moment: Probably this bit for Tattoos of Memories…
Nino throws a look over his shoulder, but Ohno places a hand between his shoulder blades. When he pushes gently, Nino puts his hands up on the wall for support.
“I think it’s good,” Ohno says again, his hand sliding down Nino’s back, no doubt following what’s left of the pattern as it quickly fades away.
“What next?” Nino asks, a small shiver running down his spine.
“Hm,” Ohno hums thoughtfully. He steps closer and his hand curls around Nino’s hip. He stays silent for a moment, considering, and Nino can tell his eyes are drawing imaginary lines all over his back.
I don’t know about other people, but when I was picturing this moment it was very sensual.
The most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: The stuff I write is pretty tame, so I can’t really think of anything.
The story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Maybe not quite a shift in my perception, but more of a character defining moment in a way is this paragraph from Closing Time:
Jun smiles, leaning against the counter, suave and oh so smooth in his lack of subtlety. “I could stay,” he says. He wasn’t so confident the first time he offered, Nino remembers. Stumbling words. Nervous hands holding too tight. Jun had first approached him with an edge of coming on too strong that somehow seemed unexpectedly charming.
I think it’s easy to image Jun as the cool one, but there’s this side of Jun that always tries to hard that just makes him so much more interesting to me. It’s that contrast that I love, and it’s what I was going for here.
The hardest story to write: Closing Time. I really wanted to finish it in time for Alissa’s birthday and I really struggled with it. When I reread it, I feel like some of that uneasiness got into the flow of the story.
The biggest disappointment: Not writing more?
The biggest surprise: The random Matsumiya moment in Closing Time. I totally wasn’t planning for that and Jun really tried hard to run away with the whole fic. XD
The most unintentionally telling story: That I really don’t know. XD Are any of them telling?
Favorite Opening Line(s): I’ll pick Tattoos of Memories, not because it’s great or anything but because I feel like it does an effective job of setting the scene.
The first time Nino steps into a tattoo parlour, it’s not by choice.
Favorite Closing Line(s): Somehow, I feel like Time & Distance and Closing Time have very similar endings. XD If I have to pick one, though, I’ll go for Time & Distance:
Nino once whispered I love you in those last moments before he fell asleep, the words wrapped and protected in darkness and slumber like a hidden treasure, and Ohno thinks it’s okay if Nino doesn’t say it tonight, but he stays close just in case.
“I did your laundry,” Nino mumbles instead, and Ohno grins.
This is true love.
Favorite 5 Lines from Anywhere:
“You said there’d be benefits to us living together, but all you do is laugh at me and steal my juice.” (Time & Distance)
“I had J over,” Nino says, and Ohno snorts a laugh because it’s a lie but a really funny one. (Time & Distance)
Ohno isn’t really sleepy yet by the time Nino starts dozing off, his body clock still floating somewhere between New York City and Tokyo, lost in transit or just slower to catch up. (Time & Distance)
Jun had first approached him with an edge of coming on too strong that somehow seemed unexpectedly charming. (Closing Time)
Under normal circumstances, Nino would resent that, but really it’s hard to be even a little bit mad when Ohno is so obviously his type. (Tattoos of Memories)
Top 5 Scenes from Anywhere You Would Choose to Have Illustrated:
