9. we all need a reason to believe - valencia ("the good life", "better be prepared", "where did you go?")
8. tha carter III - lil wayne ("got money", "lollipop", "3peat")
7. agony & irony - alkaline trio ("calling all skeletons", "help me", "love love kiss kiss")
6. lucky - nada surf ("see these bones", "whose authority", "are you lightening?")
5. new surrender - anberlin ("the resistance", "feel good drag", "breaking")
4. folie a deux - fall out boy ("she's my wiona", "the (shipped) gold standard", "w.a.m.s")
3. skip school, start fights - hit the lights ("breathe in", "tell me where you are", "backbreaker")
2. way to normal - ben folds ("the frown song", "you don't know me", "brainwascht")
1. illuminate - lydia ("fate", "a fine evening for a rogue", "now the one you once loved is leaving" -- this is one of the most incredibly beautiful and incredibly heartbreaking records i've heard in a long time. the melodies are gorgeous, the performances are amazing, and i spent a lot of nights this summer walking around listening to this record all night. if you check out one record on this list, make it this one."

2. narrow stairs - death cab for cutie
1. stop drop and roll - foxboro hot tubs (truth be told, i didnt even get this record until december, and i wish i had gotten into it earlier in the year, because i think it would have definitely been in my top ten. green day as a 60's band. what more can you really want?)
biggest disappointments --
4. when the world comes down - all american rejects (where are the singles?)
3. the quilt - gym class heroes (i mean, really?)
2. 808's an heartbreak - kanye west (turn the autotune off, kanye)
1. the glass passenger - jacks mannequin (it isn't that this was a BAD record, i actually really enjoyed it, but it lacks the magic and the staying power than "everything in transit" had. "annie use your telescope" is an incredible song though.)
records that didnt come out anytime near 2008 that i became obsessed with this year--

movies i saw that were worth my time --
1. the dark knight (this was really the only movie anyone NEEDED to see this year.)
