IC Information:

Name: Yvaine

Fandom: Stardust (Film, not book)

Timeline: Just after Capt. Shakespeare deposits them on land near to Wall, prior to Tristan’s capture and transformation by Ditchwater Sal.

Age: appears 25, most likely very old

Appearance: Yvaine stands approximately 5’5” tall. She is very thin and waifish, but she has a sturdiness about her that is not easily seen. Yvaine has shoulder length white-blond hair and deep blue eyes. Her skin is very pale and translucent when her glow is shining. She has long fingers, arms and legs. Yvaine is very lean and graceful. She has an obvious elegance to her stride and carries herself very proudly. She has pouty sort of lips and a long straight nose. Yvaine wears what is presumed typical for a star, which is a ankle length silver satin dress. She is given a deep blue dress to match her eyes by Capt Shakespeare before he drops them off near Wall, this is now what she wears.

Abilities: Yvaine shines when she is happy…literally. (Her skin is translucent and will glow white when happy) She is immortal, but not invulnerable. When sufficiently happy, her light will blind people and destroy inherently evil creatures. Yvaine cannot hide or suppress her glowing and therefore it is easy to tell when she is vulnerable, as she is most trusting and easily swayed when she is glowing. Yvaine doesn't need to eat or drink but can do both and will often eat to placate Tristan who was unnerved by this.

Personality: Yvaine is cynical and not tolerant of ignorant and stupid people. She is insecure, but warm hearted. Yvaine does not like humans very much because she has spent hundreds of years watching them fight and argue with each other. Before she was struck with the necklace and knocked from the sky, Yvaine contemplated letting her light go out and turning her back on the world. Yvaine feels that humans are not worth watching except for the love they are capable of showing each other. Yvaine is very proud and haughty at times, but she begins to warm up after meeting Capt. Shakespeare, who shows her what it’s like to have friends. After falling in love with Tristan, Yvaine is very kind, but still snarky and expresses her frustration at being unable to return home much less frequently, though she still wishes to be back in the sky where she belongs.

History: Yvaine is a star. In the land of Faerie, stars are anthropomorphic beings. Yvaine was knocked from the sky by a necklace sent from the Lord of Stormhold, whose fratricidal sons had not yet left him with an heir. When she fell to earth, Yvaine twisted her ankle badly and could not walk or find a way back to her home. The star was found by Tristan Thorn, who promised to bring back the fallen star to his beloved back in his home town of Wall.

Captured by a delicate, indestructible chain, Yvaine is forced to travel with Tristan against her will. Together they travel most of the way via a magial item called a Babylon candle. One day when Tristan is out looking for food, Yvaine’s chain is broken by a unicorn who then takes her out of the woods and to an inn. There Yvaine encounters Lamia, the oldest of the Lilim, a group of witches who desire youth and can only achieve this by eating the happy glowing heart of a star. Tricked and lulled into happiness by the Lamia’s disguise, Yvaine nearly loses her life to the witch. Tristan and the unicorn both fight valiantly, the unicorn losing its life to a blast of fire expelled by the witch. Tristan and Yvaine only escape when Tristan finds the nub of candle in his pocket and instructs Yvaine to think of home.

They both think of alternate places and become stuck on a storm cloud, caught between the heavens and Earth. After some argument about whose fault it was that they were there, Yvaine and Tristan are picked up by a lightening harvester/ sky pirate called Captain Shakespeare. There Yvaine begins to fall in love with Tristan and her happiness shows more often in the form of her glowing. After a few weeks, Capt. Shakespeare deposits Tristan and Yvaine just a day’s walk from Wall.
