so, a few months ago when i was in a little place called boston, i was on my way back to nate and wicka's house from a party and i spotted the hugest slug i'd ever seen. i decided to pick it up and carry it with me, and shortly afterwards he was named lansburger. here are a couple pictures of him:
as you can see, he is a rather large and fascinating leopard slug. i'd never seen one before, so i decided he should be my pet. i didn't know what to feed him though, so i left him outside to fend for himself. soon though, before we could even leave boston, he had run away from me back off into the wild world, where i suppose he belonged.
recently, i was looking through my pictures and rediscovered lansburger, and then decided to put his picture on my computer desktop. the other day, i sat there staring at him, and was suddenly overcome with intrigue at this strange creature. so i decided to do a little research on leopard slugs, and learn a little about my short-lived slug-owner experience.
after looking around for a really short time, i realized that these things are frickin' AMAZING. slugs are such a gross thing, but did you ever know something so gross could be simultaneously this beautiful?
so when they're mating, these long blue organs come out of their heads and entwine and turn into a large orbish glowing blue slime halo.
i highly recommend watching this 1 minute video called "mating leopard slugs". it's extremely fascinating. woah leopard slugs. WOAH.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/lifeintheundergrowth/video.shtml i seriously can't think of any other creature this ironically gross and beautiful at the same time. i just can't.
