I'm nothing like Kara except in that I also believe deeply in God, and faith underpins me like it underpins her. But that's about it. I'm far more like Lee - by the rules, works really hard to get good grades, a little bit of an academic snob - except I adore both my parents and have had the most stable and loving childhood a girl could ask for.
Sam's interesting for me because if I wasn't so enamoured with PILOTS I would have liked them as a pairing, and she was clearly comfortable and loved him very much, and he knows a lot of her deep down because she confides in him about things like her past. But the way she is with Lee slays me, and also in all the points you mention too - the "Are you sure I'm what you want?" made my heart turn over a little bit.
I'd love to be part of a ficathon but August's a disaster month (Term 3 for teachers ... nightmare), so maybe I can just submit a story if I get time? You can prompt me or something. I just don't want to let anyone down. :)

I was always pretty neutral on Sam until the finale, when I suddenly turned quite bitter. I used to enjoy them enough to read some Kara/Sam but the depth (even if she did confide in him about her past) was never there for me in their relationship. Everything was so much more with Lee.
Maybe it won't be August, and yes no pressure at all. I think we'll take a whole lot of prompt submissions so they'll always be there to pick and choose from. That would be good because prompts can be so helpful and usually all you get is shippy prompts.
(Haven't forgotten by the way that there's an academy pilots/hair cutting/coffee drinking prompt I solicited from you. ;) Am still mulling that over. )
