Went visiting to Troy today. Here is what I did:
1. Went to the history department, and promptly ran into Ye Olde Historiography Professor. He introduced me to the new department secretary as one of his "star students". I wanted to crawl into a hole and die of flattery. We talked about what I've been up to (not much) and he planted the idea in my head of taking a graduate course or two to start accumulating hours towards a masters (somewhere other than Troy, though, because they don't offer one in history, dammit). Me wants badly.
2. Further down the hallway, ran into Ye Olde Contemporary America professor, and caught up with her. She informed me that Ye Olde Dark Ages Professor is on sabbatical this semester because his wife is making him finish his book. I laughed. But he needs to finish it because I want to read it.
3. Went down to the computer center and caught up with Eric's old boss.
4. Went over to the band room and ran into
eclecticmuse, who had elected to stay with a friend in Troy rather than drive home last night. We went and sat outside on the swing and she told me about some WTF news concerning one of her old boyfriends. Apparently he still keeps a photo of her on his desk and talks about her all the time and is convinced her marriage is going to fail because she's still in love with him (so much so that she's having her husband's baby, ROFL). This is skeevy as hell.
5. Went back in the band room and asked Mr. Ford (the director of bands) what I would have to do to beg a copy of the clarinet part to "Coming Home From The Sea". He was all "hey, that's one of my charts" and said it was pretty much a literal transcription of James Horner's original score (insert me thinking "you lucky bastard, getting to play with that"). He advised me to order the score from J.W. Pepper. That way I can have all the parts in tiny print for ten bucks.
6. Hooked up with
gillijack and went over to his apartment for a little bit, then went over to the Trojan Center to meet up with
jackieb0129 so we could go to Zaxby's for lunch.
7. Ate lunch at Zaxby's.
8. Came back to campus and wandered over to the anthropology department, whereupon I discovered that half of Eldredge Hall has been gutted, and also that this week was not in actuality the first week of classes. Said hello to another old professor who was hanging out in his office with his wife and son, and met the baby squirrel he'd rescued after a storm (IT WAS SO CUTE).
9. Wandered over to the administration building and tried to figure out what I would have to do to take a graduate-level class. Didn't have much success.
10. Went back over to the history department and waffled around in the secretary's office for something like an hour or more, chatting with her and another history student who somehow got a job helping out (why didn't I do that?). Said my goodbyes to Ye Olde Historiography Professor and left feeling vaguely depressed.
11. Came home.
Eric and I are going to see Snakes On A Plane tonight, apparently. Heh. :D
