Quick notes...

Oliver had an allergic reaction to what I can only assume is eggs, as he was eating toast that had eggs and bacon on top. He did not want to eat anything but the bread so he did, but there was still egg residue and voila....hives. Since the both of us [his parents] have food allergies, this is not surprising and somewhat expected.

He had patches of ( Read more... )

Seems like so many people have food allergies. No one in my family had food allergies when they were kids. I don't know about the great-nieces. I haven't heard of them having any. Must be a genetic thing.

Isn't there some kind of subcutaneous test that they can do to detect allergies and sensitivities? My friend Robin's grandson had that done when he was a toddler and it turned out he had food allergies.

Good luck with the speech therapist. Hopefully you can get one soon!

Ugh, no A/C! I hope it's fixed before Wednesday, when it's supposed to heat up again. NY in summer is no joke without A/C.

Good for you, driving around town in your SUV! Must be a great feeling, not having to worry about public transportation anymore. I won't lie, I'm a little envious. Not enough to learn to drive at the age of 55, though!

It's funny because in both of our families, no one has food allergies. My parents and siblings don't, and my boyfriend's parents and sister don't.

Yeah, you can do a skin test but IIRC, it's not too accurate until he age of 2. We'lll see what the doc says, though.

Driving is super scary at the beginning. But the more you do it, the easier it becomes. I've even been on the expressway a handful of times and it's been fine. I had to learn to drive because eastern LI doesn't have good public transport, and now at least I can take Oliver to the dr if there's an urgency.

Hmm, that does seem unusual, that no one has allergies but Oliver.

I thought that might be the case - the kids I've heard of that have had it have all been toddlers - 2 or 3 years old.

Good for you! That must give you a strong sense of accomplishment and independence.

Yeah, it's really strange that none of my family members have food allergies, but I do. And one of my boyriend's family has food allergies, but my boyfriend does. We figured Oliver would have food allergies so hopefully he'll have a full allergy panel. My allergies are to food and medication, my boyfriend's allergies are to animals, food, pollen, dander, etc.

Yes, hopefully they'll test him for all allergens and sensitivities when the time comes.

I'm allergic to cats. My brother Douglas (the one I don't talk to) is allergic to pollen and some other stuff, I'm not sure what. He used to get really bad eczema. None of my other 3 siblings is allergic to anything that I know of.

Oliver's eczema never goes away. It dries up a bit and then comes right back, so that's why I think it's allergy related.
