I started back to work at the vet's office on Sunday. It's such a relief. You have no idea how much I love working with the animals. Although, I have to say, I do believe that I'm working with two of the most incompetent people I have ever met in my entire life.
Yesterday was insanely busy. I did the majority of the baths after I got frustrated with how slow the other people were doing them. I then proceeded to clean just about every cage in the kennel. Today, my supervisor, Mike, disassembled a bay of cages, which I worked outside with, bleaching all of them from top to bottom. That took me about forty-five minutes, but I'm sunburnt and dehydrated. I then bathed the fluffiest dog in all of existence. There was fur all over my face; that was pretty disgusting. I forgot what it's like to feel like a Wolfman (or in my case, Wolfwoman). Not only was the dog wicked fluffy, but it also had some nails that were over three inches long. THREE INCHES. They were curled around, twisted; some of the shorter ones had just broken off from the pressure of walking. The dog is about a thousand years old. Courtney said it looks like a woolly mammoth; I said it looks like a fluffy hippo. Pretty sure I'm the one who's right there. Haha.
Days aren't always like this. I fully expect for Thursday to be a cake walk. We only have one bath so far (although I'm sure that there will be more from spays, neuters, and such). There won't be that many animals there to care for. I'm thinking Thursday should be pretty sweet. What I really can't wait for is when all of the little punks go back to school next month, and people stop boarding their animals with us so that they can go off on some whim of a vacation. I especially love the people that board their pets with us every month for a week or so. What's the point of having a pet if you have to do that? The pet is unhappy, and the owner is unhappy because they never get to spend time with their little munchkin.
On a lighter note, there's a cat at work that I want to bring home. They named her Dustie when she came in. She's a stray kitten who really needs a home. She loves to play; one of the techs bought her a yellow cow that's about the same size that she is, and she pounces on it and pretends to wrestle. It's one of the cutest things ever.
