[Backdated] [Open] And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope.

Elizabeth died today.

Cassie doesn't want to face that. In such a short space of time, she's lost so many friends in Chicago. Too many. And now today she's lost another one, an important one. They're all important to her, but Elizabeth was something special to her.

She sits up on the roof of Kashtta that evening. In denial, she thinks by sittiing up here, maybe Elizabeth will come back. That she'll come up to the room again and they can talk again. Elizabeth was her first friend here in Chicago. She found her in the streets that night she came through and took her to safety. She was a young girl full of a greater understanding; she was kind, friendly and loving. She was a beautiful friend.

And as the hours pass, she still remembers what she'd said that day. "Death is warm and safe and good... You were an amazing friend for her. If you were there for her and showed her you loved her, it's all any of us can do for each other, you know?" She thinks she understands now what Elizabeth meant. Perhaps there were some things that Cassie didn't know about her friend. Perhaps Elizabeth was in pain, perhaps that what she meant when her memory had gone. Perhaps she meant something else. Cassie can't be sure, she can't read minds.

But what she does know for certain is that Elizabeth is dead and although she doesn't want to face that, it's alright to be sad over that. The main thing was that she was her friend. Cassie loved her, she was in her life and Elizabeth was in her. That was the main thing. That was the best thing.

Falling asleep in the cool September night, the tears dry.

And she hopes that death was warm and safe and good for her.
