And the voice speaketh from on high ...

Mar 28, 2006 19:31

And on the second day of the thirteenth week, of the third month in the year two thousand and six of our Queens calendar a voice did resound from on high at work ...

"We have more stories added to the first release of our product"

And lo the designers nodded in agreement, for the stories the voice wanted to add were good.

"We should be okay to make it in time, and we are going to help remove distractions"

And so the designers looked around at each other ...

Remove distractions ?

"We shall have one amoung you who everyone shall pester first with knowledge questions, and that person shall be Starry"

Buh ? WTF, I'm the second newest person on the project .... :S

And so the first voice from on high departed

"Fellow designers, we should put in a bit more time now on our own so we don't get told we are doing it later"

WTF, another voice ? [Checks coca cola from the vending machine ... damn, no extra ingredients]

"We shall also split one pair of designers to increase velocity, pair programming is a nice to have, not a have to have"

Holy Crap, music to my ears, we can actually get some bloody work done for once at a reasonable pace ...

"And thou shalt only commit from machines here at the office ..."

Uh, Mr Voice, I think you're smoking crack, WTF does it matter where I commit from so long as the setup is the same ?

Right, a few wins, and as much as I'm like WTF about being the go to guy now, I can't say it's anyone elses fault but my own .... I made the mistake of writing "the best installation documentation I've ever seen" (quote from one support guy); I also have a bad habit of absorbing information through my skin while I'm sitting there programming.

Now, this isn't all bad, it means I'm the only one from the team that is going to get a _shitload_ of exposure off the team, and to the customers ... can we say a good thing folks ? I know you can ....

As to the "voluntary" extra time, well no shit we should do it up front, not be forced into it later on ... that's just managing your manager, and your own life ...

Lets see ....

Deadline .... check
More and more responsibility .... check
More time then is allocated required ..... check
Starry has control of the music in the project room .... check (no more classical bullshit, you need _real_ music to code to)

From High Park, Hack the Planet ;-)
