Fic: Leaving

Hey haven't written in a while and I've never written Traders fic but here goes.

Warnings: Unbeta-ed, Australian spelling (I've gotten complaints about it before but it's not natural for me to use any other spelling) and I've only seen about half the series. Spoilers up to season 3.

Grant didn’t like to leave places. Donald had learnt that quickly once they started sharing his apartment. He just hadn’t understood how far Grant’s want to stay in one place went.

“I’ll-I’ll pay for half the rent.”
“You don’t need to do that Grant.”
“But-but I have the money. I-I can pay for stuff and-and”
“Grant. You don’t have to pay for anything here alright. I mean if you want to buy some stuff for yourself to make yourself more comfortable, sure. But I can handle the bills and stuff.”
After all you’re only here until this caffeine thing’s over then you’ll leave.

“Grant, are you ready to go? Grant? Grant! Get out of bed we’re going to be late.”
“Ur…later…”
“No, Grant, now. You’ll get fired if you’re always late to work.”
“R-Really? They’d fire me?”
“Yes Grant, so we have to go now.”
“T-That’s great!”
“What?”
“I’ll just… stay here then.”
“What? Wait, Grant… I said I’d take you to work right?”
“Yes you did.”
“So if you don’t come with me then I can’t leave and I’ll get fired too. Please Grant.”
“They’d fire you too? That’s- that’s not fair. I-I need to go… so you don’t get fired.”
“Right so could you please…”
“Yes… yes I’ll be ready in-in about 42 seconds.”
“That’s great Grant, I’ll wait at the door and we’ll get breakfast on the way.”
Well that should make it easier for him to leave in the morning.

“Hi Donald.”
“Hi Grant, ready to go home?”
“Home?”
“Yeah, my apartment.”
“Right-right I know I’m just, it’s just… It’s 8pm.”
“Yeah I know I was talking to Jack and it took longer than I thought.”
“But-but I, there’s still, I can still trade now and-and I still”
“Grant.”
“Yes?”
“I’m going home now and I’d like you to come with me.”
“…Okay.”
He didn’t want to come here and now he doesn’t want to leave. Why? Does he have some kind of fear of travelling or is it that he has to go past so many people or…

“Hey Grant I talked to your doctor.”
“Oh? A-And?”
“Good news you’re fine. You can have chocolate and coffee again.”
“Heh… chocolate. T-That’s great.”
“Yep, so I guess you’ll be moving out this weekend?”
“…what?”
“Well… you don’t need to stay away from your place anymore so… If you need more time to get your stuff together I don’t mind but”
“No i-it’s I’ll go this weekend.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
Why do I feel like I just kicked a puppy? He wasn’t meant to stay.

Donald understood now. He’d talked to Jack and they’d figured it out. Grant didn’t like to leave places because of the people. Not the ones outside but the ones inside, the ones he’d decided were friends. Donald understood now Grant was as unhappy with leaving Donald’s apartment as he had been leaving Gardner Ross when Jack had traded him away. Donald would make sure Grant wouldn’t have to leave again.
