Read this article and take it for what you will, but I for one was extremely amused by the direction this article took toward the end... and I don't care if I'm a bad Catholic for thinking so. :D

Ringo vs. the Vatican: Ringo for Pope
Somewhere John Lennon and George Harrison must be having absolute fits of laughter.
Harrison, the late spiritual Beatle, who once wrote that "The Pope owns 51 percent of General Motors/The stock exchange is the only thing he's qualified to quote us," and the late Lennon, who turned the world on its head when he said the Beatles where more popular than Jesus in 1966 (face it, he was right), have got to be getting a kick out of headlines like "Ringo slams the Vatican," that are showing up in media outlets across the globe.
Well if Ringo and Paul McCartney are the last surviving members of the most influential band of all time, the esteemed Mr. Starr is holding up his end of the deal, even as he approaches age 70. And don't be surprised to hear from Beatle Paul at any moment. They still stick together and they always will - especially when they're right.
All the fuss has been caused by the Vatican's decision to "honor" the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' breakup by finally saying, in essence, "yeah in comparison to 50 Cent and Marilyn Manson, those Liverpool lads were aok in our book."
This week, the Vatican newspaper "L'Osservatore Romano" said it had forgiven them and called them a "precious jewel."
Had they applied for forgiveness?
In truth, Starr didn't exactly "Slam" the Vatican, but headline writers live for stuff like this. But the world's most famous drummer did make his thoughts perfectly clear.
Starr told CNN: "Didn't the Vatican say we were satanic or possibly satanic -- and they've still forgiven us? I think the Vatican, they've got more to talk about than the Beatles."
They certainly do, considering the worldwide controversy the Vatican and Pope Benedict have found themselves in with the growing sex scandal allegations involving alleged pedophile priests and the Pontiff's reactions to the charges against them. This is what politicians like to call "creating a distraction" during times of turmoil.
And so, the Vatican paper has focused on the Fabs with this lovely quote:
"It's true, they took drugs; swept up by their success, they lived dissolute and uninhibited lives," said the paper. "They even said they were more famous than Jesus. But, listening to their songs, all of this seems distant and meaningless. Their beautiful melodies, which changed forever pop music and still give us emotions, live on like precious jewels."
Who gets a clean slate next? Timothy Leary? Nah, he never made anything as good as Side 2 of "Abbey Road." Keith Richards? Don't even go there.
One area priest has even gotten embroiled in the scandal this week when he called on the Pope to resign if the allegations concerning his handling of the crisis are true.
He called on the Pope to resign??????!!!!!!!!!!
Now let's see, that would mean we'd need someone to take over quick. Someone who could preach about peace and love. Check. Someone who's good with crowds and comfortable with lots of screaming fans. Check. Someone who's a welcome ambassador all over the world. Check. Someone who would look wicked cool in the Pope-mobile. Check. Someonce comfortable wearing a big ring. Check. Someone who is rock steady with a clean track record when it comes to kids.
Check, check, check.
Hey Ringo was the voice on that kids' show "Thomas the Tank Engine!" And he's the guy who sang "Yellow Submarine" the first song that EVERY kid learns by the Beatles.
"I get high with a little help from my friends?" All is forgiven my son.
I can see the white smoke coming up those Vatican chimneys right now. It's a long way from Liverpool lad.
That's it! Ringo for Pope. He's almost even approaching the perfect age.
And should someone else find themselves out of a job, maybe there's an All-Starr band band without a drummer this summer. Any chance the other fellow ever did any drumming back in Germany? You never know. Maybe their paths might have even passed back in those early Beatles' days at the Star Club in Hamburg.....
The movement begins here. Today. Ringo for Pope. All together now...
