I should be grabbing my gear and going for a swim at the Y.
But I was just there last night.
Not swimming, on elliptical instead but still... it was a workout.
Lately I've been needing and wanting the extra workouts so that I can try to do, as the old saying goes, "blow off some steam". I think I'd need something a bit more intense to really pull that off.
I swear, if our Y had an ice skating rink attached to it I'd be all over that. In the last year I've become a much better swimmer. I always knew how to swim, as I can't remember a time in my life where I didn't know how, but the past year has helped my endurance and I've been watching some of the really good regulars and their form, trying to see if I can copy that to some degree. It's helped. But having regular access to skating would really be awesome. I can skate okay but I'd love to get to that place where I lace up and feel 100 percent comfortable all the time, to where I can stop on a dime or learn to skate backwards, etc. As much as I love hockey I don't think I'd be up for playing in a rec league but, hey, you never know. I suppose anything is possible.
Tic toc, tic toc... the stalling tactic is working. But I still need to go to the gym. No escaping that one.
Workout, work, get home, and then... ???
My Friday night is pretty wide open. Avalanche game could easily lure me in. Or if my wife and I could russle up enough spare change maybe we could see a movie. I'd like to go see something non-kiddish; something the kids won't want to see anyway. That really is the trick, by the way, when your kids get older, in terms of getting out to the movies with your significant other: See something they have no desire to see. It means you can't really do Yogi Bear as a date. And if you're doing that movie as a date or seeing it with your kids for that matter...well, heaven help you! :)
Still stalling. I'm masterful at this.
CD of the moment: Flamingo by Brandon Flowers, aka as lead singer of The Killers. It's a fun album, as the guy clearly aspires to be for Las Vegas what Springsteen is for New Jersey. He gets a total "A" for ambition and a solid "B" for execution. If you check it out, go with the "Deluxe Edition" as the four extra tracks that come with that edition are pretty stellar, including the country-tinged "The Clock Was Tickin'". It's a kick to hear the guy who sang "Mr. Brightside" doing something George Jones could have taken a stab at.
Okay... I'm out. I will hit the (fucking) pool now. :)
