I have never been terribly crazy about the notion of Starbucks being in the music business.
Sure, they've released a few "exclusives" that I've liked. High on the list is the self-titled 2007 album from Low Stars.
Higher on the list are two compilations they released in 2004 and 2005, titled Sweetheart. The concept for these collections was simple: Ask a handful of indie and mainstream acts to pick a favorite love song to cover and put all those covers together on a disc for Valentine's Day. And the two discs in the collection are quite awesome. And now the Sweetheart collection is back after a 4 year layoff, leaning more to the indie side this go-around. The only big name acts on board are Death Cab For Cutie (covering The Cure's "Love Song") and Katy Perry doing a contemporary cover or Sam Sparro's "Blacn & Gold". The rest of the disc includes A.C. Newman, Rogue Wave, She & Him, Jem, and a whole bunch of others. It's a fun listen.
So... this got me thinking.
What is a favorite love song of yours and what band or singer (aside from the original artist, of course) would you love to hear take a stab at it?
If you were in charge of one of these fun and romantic comlilations for the mighty coffee giant (or sputtering coffee giant, given the economy), what would you put on it?
The floor is open!
