http://www.billboard.com Rod Stewart has hit #1 on the Album Charts...again.
America... if some 180,000 of you are going to go to your local music retailer in search of rock music I can personally recommend at least a dozen releases from calendar year 2006 alone (so far) that will fill your soul, get the feet tapping, or the head banging (if that's your cup) better than Rod Stewart.
For those keeping score, Stewart's latest effort begins Phase Two in his apparent quest to cover every song ever written. He did 4 (!!) volumes of the American Songbook and now has turned to "Classic Rock" on his new album, Still The Same. This move has a sad irony to it because Stewart -- a leading candidate for both The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (for some of his solo work and his work with The Faces) and The Rock & Roll Hall of Suck (for pretty much everything post 1978) -- has actually recorded music that I would define as "classic". But those days are long gone. He makes Sting look authentic and I didn't think that was fucking possible!
Rod makes me sad. How can the man who once sang of Maggie May and Pool Hall Richard now be about half a step up from your average Vegas lounge act?
Seriously, what's next? A Twisted Sister holiday album?
Oh wait...
What do you want to do with your life? I wanna rock... and wait for Dee Snider to come down the chimney and bring me the shell of Rod Stewart's career. Or something.
