a serious dose of self confidence

[Tarot.com ] You may have overstepped your boundaries, but you could also reap rewards because you went further than usual. This is a dynamic time; even if you fail, keep in mind that you are still opening the doors of opportunity. You will need a serious dose of self-confidence to have a fighting chance for success.

well, that was my horoscope for today, once again spelling out an eerily fitting specific description of what happens to me. i got an email this morning from my future employer telling me my request for her to match my pay that others have offered is basically unfounded. i reread my request to her - it was highly polite - but her response was firm. well, i have now discovered her buttons, i suppose. of course, i responded politely and with respect as well, and all is fine. however, i know it is not unreasonable to request better pay, and i find it interesting that it should solicit such a lengthy reaction from her. maybe i struck a nerve! she did have her points. regardless, i do find it pisses me off when people give me a condescending attitude masked in politeness. the attitude of, "oh, how sweet, you are so green that i barely take you seriously." i want to respond, "hold on, you don't know me, and besides, you should be trying to solicit the most confidence from me right now rather than undermining me. you don't know my abilities, so don't assume i have learned under X circumstance and know nothing about Y." but of course, you cannot respond. both j and i have experienced this... people assuming, with an air of condescending passivity, that paper speaks everything. it is highly obnoxious. NEVERtheless i think i will be very happy with this employer as till now she has been more than gracious with her high doses of compliments to me and her praise and anticipation of more great things in the future. she is by far outside the norm on that and for that i am much appreciative, surprised, and excited.

i also do not understand why so much is just talk in an interview. they will act excited and tell you a specific day and time that they will call you. there was no requirement for them to do this. we did not ask them for it. they offered it up themselves. so why, then, do they not follow through? not even within a week of that time? not returning phone calls? common courtesy would be at least to update us on our status. i find it so ironic that their first impression of us means so and so much is judged on it, much yet they do not stop to consider that the same is true vice-versa. it would be unacceptable for me to agree to show up or call them and not do so. i would be considered flaky, untrustworthy, unreliable, and discarded. so why is it ok for them to do the same?

anyway. today was my FIRST OFFICIAL DAY OF OHIO WORK, AND IT WAS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! so that fulfills the rest of my horoscope :) confidence baby.
