House of Holiday Slack: Report #1

Dec 25, 2006 20:14

With my daughter spending Christmas with her grandparents in Colorado, I've been looking forward to a holiday week of total, unremitting slack.  Here's how it's going so far:

Christmas Eve (day into night): Slept until 4pm.  Carved cold lamb from leftover leg in fridge, ate it out of hand with olives straight from container.  Drank 2 liters of Diet Pepsi straight from the bottle -- didn't even bother to pour it into glass. Spent twelve straight hours at MacBook; downloaded episodes of various TV shows from iTunes, watched them straight through.  Showered; returned to computer; surfed web; wrote journal entries; dicked around in Second Life; played Warcraft on Gwen's account; got her character killed (oops!).  At 7am, started seeing flashes and weird smears of light in front of my eyes.  Left all lights on, including tree, and crashed in bed on top of blankets, fully clothed.

Christmas Day: Woke briefly at noon to sound of knocking on back door -- neighbors from downstairs, who I love, either well-meaningly checking to make sure I'm alive or wanting my help or to invite me to share their Christmas meal.   Did not answer door; opened one eye and waited for knocking to pass; felt guilty.  Went back to sleep until 2pm, when I was awakened by more knocking.  Ignored it and went back to sleep again.  Woke at 5pm.  Lights still on from last night give house a cozy prepared feel, as if someone else is taking care of my shit while I'm in slackland.  Called Gwen to wish her a happy Christmas; watched battery on phone die; did not plug it back in to recharge.  Ate peanut butter straight from jar; brewed 12-cup pot of coffee (there is no more Diet Pepsi); nursed horribly sore knee from sitting on couch all day yesterday;  self-medicated with mega-doses of vitamins.  Changed sheets on both beds.  Looked at but did not wash pile of dishes in sink.  Returned to couch and computer.  Surfed web.  Showered.  Thought about doing Pilates.  Dressed in workout clothes.  Did not do Pilates; returned to couch instead.  Started re-reading Harry Potter series from Book 1.
