Last night I had an episode of stomach pain that scared me to death! It was the second time I've experienced it in a week. It begins as an intense burning in the pit of my stomach and quickly builds in intensity. It feels as though a red hot poker is being thrust through my stomach and goes all the way through me and comes out my back. The pain got so bad I could barely breathe. Because of my lung problems I breathe in shallow breaths anyway, but the pain was so bad that my breath was coming in teeny tiny shallow gasps. I was afraid I might pass out from lack of oxygen. I tried to breath deeper but for the life of me I couldn't manage it. My husband wanted to call 911 and I kept saying, "not yet", one word at a time since that's all I could manage due to my limited breathing. It lasted about 15 minutes. Just when my husband had picked up the phone to call for help the pain began to subside. THANK GOD! Once it begins to subside it does so fairly rapidly, and is completely gone within 5 minutes. I had just finished eating my dinner (soup) about 5 minutes before the pain started but I don't think the food had anything to do with it because I had an episode of the same pain about 5 days ago and that time it occurred late at night when I was in bed just about to fall asleep. That time I had to sit up because the pain was so bad, but it only lasted about 5 minutes as opposed to the 15 minute episode last night. I'm worried I've developed a new complication, or that I have more permanent damage to my digestive tract. I'm trying to decide if I should go to the doctor over this or wait and see if it happens again.
