What do you wish you could find to read?

I'm feeling annoyingly depressed again lately. It really irritates me when I start to feel down, which of course helps nothing because then I just hate on myself more.

Anyway, whatever, who cares. To the point of the entry--

What do you wish you saw more (or less) of in stories? What are things you can never seem

I'd like to see complex characters - unidimensional ones are so third grade! I'd like to see compelling plots, not made-up drama. I'd like to see less violence for the sake of violence - some authors put their character through hell just for kicks. I would just like higher quality fics. I have tried like 15 gay fiction published books (not self published) and only one was relatively OK. Several were so bad, they were unreadable. Most were just made following mechanically a template recipe that just didn't work in the end.

I hear you about gay romance. I mostly read mainstream these days, because the stories are good, but there is not an infinity of mainstream novels with m/m or f/f in them.

The best MM romance that I've read online was the free type. One would expect more professionalism from professional writers!

I've been striking out on a lot of published m/m I've tried reading lately, too. I haven't been satisfied with almost any of it. And even the ones I liked, there are usually large portions of it I didn't love but I ignored just because I don't have a lot of options and I liked the other pieces enough to gloss over it

There was an author I like from free fics but the one published story I've read sucked big time and it was a bit of a plagiarism too. It could have just been written in the honor of the original story, but then they should have mentioned that.

I am not attracted to anything supernatural in m/m stories - from werewolves, vampires to magic of any kind - it just seems immature to me. I am more drawn to realistic stories. I don't mind sci fi, as long as it's just a setting for a realistic story or a plausible relationship between believable characters. I like humor, but usually when the author brags about their story being humorous, it's just because their characters act like people suffering from severe retardation. There are very few exception, like one or two.

LOL It's true, it does feel like the more an author brags about something (their books are humorous, witty, romantic, etc) the less likely it's going to actually seem that way to an outsider. Because really, why would you need to tell someone your book is such a way if it actually is? People would figure it out.

Ok I kind of want to ask now what that published story was that you didn't enjoy and that felt like plagiarism to you. You have my curiosity piqued. (You could PM me if you want) If you don't want to tell me no worries. Not like I'd tell anyone else lol I just have an insatiable curiosity.

I used to be more into werewolves and vampires etc. I'm not against them atm but they aren't my first choice. I like realism more as well :)
