Once Upon a Time -- and a bunch of Mr. Gold videos XD

Ok I keep wanting to write out thoughts about tv shows and I stop myself because I don't know if anyone else is watching. BUT OH WELL. Because after the latest Once Upon a Time (s2e3) I felt the need to write.
[I have to admit, my opinion of OUAT keeps changing... CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR SECOND SEASON] My opinion keeps changing about Once Upon a Time. First, I loved it-- more than Grimm, actually, because I felt like Nick was a bit too wooden. But as the shows continued, Grimm really grew into itself while OUAT started varying significantly -- some of the episodes, I thought, were done extremely well. And some SERIOUSLY missed the mark to the point that, eventually, I started getting disappointed by the show.
There were episodes that got me all teary-eyed, and I loved the Snow White/Prince Charming flashbacks. I like that Snow White is actually pretty bad ass, and Prince Charming is a good guy but he isn't perfect. I also liked Red's story when it came out because it was different.
To be honest, my biggest problem is Regina. I hate to say it, but I just do not understand her character. When they finally showed her back story to show why she was evil, I didn't feel like it was a good reason at all. I continually question whether she actually loves Henry, or rather, why it is she's so convinced she does. She doesn't really seem like the evil queen to me. However, Rumpelstiltskin is freaking awesome. I LOVE him. And I really liked the tie-in with-- well, I won't say her name in case it's a spoiler for someone.
So, I was enjoying the series well enough but there were some things that honestly annoyed the crap out of me, including some cinematography at the end of the first season. (Seriously? A mother sees her child fall and she just stands in the background perfectly still calling out the name instead of rushing forward? That killed an otherwise good scene for me...)
Then the second season started and I wasn't sure what to think. Now everyone has their memories back even though they're stuck in Storyville still. I wasn't sure how that was going to play out, especially since Regina has weirdly decided she's going to be a good guy now (after outright stating, "I want to redeem myself" which I thought was pretty funny. Who does that? Plus, were the writers trying to hit home to us viewers that we're supposed to like her now? Because if so, that totally didn't work for me, but her actually following through on her actions little by little is helping me.)
Anyway, I guess long story short there's this:
Now that we have dual story lines going it's kind of awesome. Because in the fantasy world we have the kick ass women who are going to figure this shit out all on their own, with ogres and evil witches and all these other things after them -- while in the real world it's time for the men to bond while the main evil people there are dudes, plus Regina if you can figure her out.
The reason I find this to be kind of awesome is because it's the opposite of what would normally happen in fairy tales-- where the women basically stay at home in the relatively safe areas trying to build their relationship as a family while the men go out on the adventures. I enjoy that in a lot of ways Snow White is actually more bad ass than Prince Charming. It's kind of cute, because she's really motivated to fight while he's always sort of been more of a laid back guy who just wants to be happy. They complement each other well that way.
Also, I like how Snow is taking control of situations protecting Emma while still being herself. And in the real world-- guys, can I just say it's kind of adorable watching Charming with Henry? They are so cute as grandpa/grandchild. The sword fighting scene at the end was cute because it was almost like make believe, which is kind of cool because that's contrasted with the reality that Snow and Emma and the others are going through.
Oh yeah-- Mulan. Totally pulled from Disney but I'm just sayin, she's awesome. Oh and Jefferson :( I love Jefferson! I was so happy to see him finally get a damn break, the poor guy. Now I'm just waiting for Pinocchio to get a chance...
So right now I'm really liking OUAT again. However it seems like everything is kind of episode by episode. The funniest thing is, when I went to write this entry I was convinced we were already on season 3 and was really surprised to see it's only season 2. I don't know if that says something good or bad about the first season... maybe it's just because the whole show is built around basically coexisting story lines.
Either way, I'm glad I'm digging the show again but I also keep feeling like there are a lot of cheesy moments. I'm hoping they can get back into the right balance they started with, which made me love the show initially. I do think it's cool how there keep being parts of Snow/Charming's story we never heard about before.
Oh yeah-- and Lancelot! I liked Lancelot :) + :(
Finally-- well. This should be interesting with Cora. At least SHE seems like an evil queen. On the other hand, to be fair I will say that after we got to see another flashback of Regina in this season I did start to understand her deal a bit more. Rumpelstiltskin kind of fucked with things more than I realized... which is so weird to think about because I keep thinking of him as a good guy and Regina as a bad guy even though neither of them is really fully either anymore. But Regina always seemed so smug and annoying while Mr. Gold is just awesome. AWESOME I TELL YOU. SO IDK.
By the way, I checked youtube for a clip to show why he's so awesome... and I found this:
And the I ran across this which is just hilarious XD The person who made it has in the notes that they heard the video was tweeted to the actor and she apologized for the video to him should he see the note XDD
Ok I'll try to stop with him now. btw I just learned the couple name with him is Rumbelle which is kind of hilarious and kind of adorable XD All I can think is, "LLLLLLLET'S GET READY TO RUMBEEEEEEELLE!!"
