NC Amendment aaeth April 28 2012, 21:56:36 UTC
Hey, Just thought I'd add that North Carolina is voting on a state constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman, and it would also ban any other type of "domestic legal union" such as civil unions and domestic partnerships. It's amendment one, and it's up for vote May 8th.

NORTH CAROLINA! That was the other state! Thank you! I had it in my mind Nebraska at first and didn't see anything... I see now why I thought Nebraska; I'd apparently only remembered it started with an N.

LOL I'm just in Durham and that's fairly liberal so I don't know if it is a good yardstick to judge the feelings of the rest of the state, but the support I see for voting the amendment DOWN is really encouraging. There might be hope that it fails. *fingers crossed*

I hope so! I seriously can't believe in this day and age this sort of shit is not only a debate but people are actually putting it up for vote to amend state constitutions... it's so beyond my understanding why it's being taken seriously at all that I can't even comprehend why this is so effing hard to finalize equal rights for everyone. I think the people who say it's the civil rights movement of our time, like how the race and women movements were previously, and I also think that's kind of a good thing because if that were true that also means it's a lot more likely to turn out for the best eventually. So that people look back to now and go "Wow did that seriously happen?"
