So we talked online. He told me that I had the same match percentage as his wife, and let me pick his brain on open relationships, I assured him I was in a weird situation relationship wise and wasn't going to judge.
He asked me about books and beaches, I rambled about tv shows and birds, through a typo mishap we ended up making up a story about a mythical giant who didn't really care for fairs and avoided them.
I didn't know it yet, but this easy fun conversation would be the cornerstone of our relationship for the next year.
We tried to arrange a time to meet but it was tricky as he was traveling,I had family visiting and then I was (stupidly) flying my ex Brandon,in to visit me.
Finally when I was in the weirdest place emotionally I decided, yea now a good time to meet this guy. I had just spent a week with Brandon, going to the beach and out to eat, having mediocre sex and watching him play video games while I drank to try pretend this was still what I wanted and it still felt right.
I would love to say, I really felt like this was going to be something and I knew before we even met, but I didn't. I just didn't care, I was all confused about being with Brandon we had talked about (read I told him I would be) dating other people, but I was still hing up on him so meeting someone else wasn't even on my mind as I got ready to go to the beach on my first date with Steve.
The day of the infamous first date was Labor Day, we both had the day off work so he was comming to me and we were going to a surf competition at a nearby beach.
He was picking me up (a big online dating no-no but I was lazy).
I remember sittng in the living room talking to my roommate/best friend Amanda and we heard a car pull up, and then a horn sound.
Me and Amanda looked at each other eyebrows raised.
"Ugh he's a honker? He's not even going to come to the door?"
I agreed, that is a dick move, well to late to back out now.
"Yea, this is definitely a mark against him" I replied grabbing bag, "oh well we will see what happens,I'll see you later"
