FIC: Haunting 1/1 FR13, Tara/Sam Winchester

Notes: Set pre-season one of Supernatural and post-Chosen.
Summary: He knows that she’s a ghost but he’s still drawn to her.
He knows that she’s a ghost from the minute that he first lays eyes on her but he can’t help being drawn to her. There’s something about her ethereal and tragic beauty that draws him to her. It makes him want to give up everything, including school and Jess, even though she’s never asked him to. If his father or Dean were around, Sam knows that they’d want to destroy her bones so that she wouldn’t haunt him anymore. They wouldn’t understand that it’s not as if she actively seeks him out, that it’s him who haunts her.
“You know that you shouldn’t come here anymore.”
“I know that, but….” Sam began.
“But what, Sam? There’s nothing between us. There never could be, even if I wasn’t dead. We lived two completely separate lives, and you need to return back to the life that you’ve chosen for yourself. You need to start living again,” Tara gently scolded.
“And what will happen to you?”
“That’s not something you should worry about. And anyhow it’s not as if I am some tragic ghost tied to the earth as some form of punishment or torment.”
“I know but I still worry.”
“You shouldn’t worry about me. Go live your life, Sam.”
He doesn’t say anything in response because there’s nothing to say. It seems odd that a ghost is telling him to live his life when he had fought so hard to have the life he’s chosen for himself. Yet at that moment with his heart breaking over the what-can-never-be, he knows that if given the chance he’d give up everything to be able to hold Tara in his arms for one brief moment. And he knows at that moment, that maybe his father and brother would be right in destroying her because of the unnatural hold that she has over him. Instead of wasting more time and trying to find a way to be with her, he turns on his heel and makes his way back to the home he shares with Jess, a living and breathing woman who loves him and with whom he can have a future with.
