Summary: Willow realizes where home has always been for her.
They had been friends for so long and had been there for one another through the good and the bad. Yet after the destruction of Sunnydale, they had slowly drifted apart. Her life was in Brazil with a borderline narcissistic Slayer, and his life was in Africa trying to train the Slayers he found there despite the language and cultural barriers. It had taken Willow walking in on Kennedy with another Slayer in their bed for the two former inseparable friends to reconnect.
Willow hadn’t really thought anything when she threw some clothes in an overnight bag; the only thing on her mind was putting as much distance between herself and her ex-girlfriend. When she had arrived at the airport, she bought a ticket for the first flight out of South America; it wasn’t until she was on the plane that the significance that she was on a plane heading to Africa hit her. She was heading towards Xander, the one person who had been there for her when no one else had.
Tracking down her childhood friend had taken Willow several weeks but when she had finally found him, the exhausting weeks had been worth it. Xander hadn’t said a word as he spread his arms open for her. Instead he caught her to his chest as she fell into those welcoming arms. Unspoken words passed between the two as they fell into a comfortable silence, despite the two years that had passed since they had last seen one another. Willow knew without a word being said that they wouldn’t part company again. She was home where she belonged and neither of them was going to let the other one go anytime soon. Xander kissed her forehead as she smiled up at him and that was all the reassurance that Willow ever needed.
