She was the one reminder of his pathetic existence as a human, and he had thought that by breaking her, he could overcome his humanity. Yet the sight of her tortured body covered in bruises, blood and tears did not stop the feelings of regret and pain. It didn’t matter that he had taken everything that she had; one look from her tear stained green eyes was enough to make him feel guilt. He was a vampire not some useless worm of a human. And he decided that he would drain her, yet as he drank down the heady taste of her sweet blood, it still wasn’t enough. It was on the brink of her death that Xander realized that he could only destroy the humanity within him if he brought her to his side as his mate. Xander didn’t hesitate as he bit his wrist and held it to her mouth.
