They had entered the Hyperion in a celebratory mood until they had seen Willow patiently waiting for them, or more accurately waiting for Angel. Her tearstained face seemed to cause everyone to scatter because it was obvious why she was there. Even Gunn and Lorne knew that it was bad news from Sunnydale, and they seemed to know precisely what that bad news was. The moment when Angel walked forward to Willow and the others backed away was the moment that Cordelia was cut off. It was as if she had never been close to Buffy, and therefore she wasn’t allowed to mourn her death. Even after Willow had returned to Sunnydale, the focus of everyone’s concern was Angel and how he was dealing with his grief. In the face of Angel’s monumental grief, her sadness over the loss of a vibrant young woman was ignored. It just didn’t seem as important to the others to ensure that Cordelia was coping well, when it looked like Angel could fall over the face of the cliff that was his grief. But it still seemed to Cordelia that it was if she was not allowed to grieve Buffy because she hadn’t loved her like Angel had.

Title: Responsibilities
Author: Sweetness
Pairing: Angel/Cordelia
Rating: FR13
Disclaimer: The Buffyverse belongs to Joss Whedon and company.
Notes: Written for 100moods for prompt #5 (anxious). This is also using anomilygrace’s prompt of Cordy/Angel with a 3-year-old Connor.

Cordelia’s life had completely changed since she had first arrived in LA. At the time she was sure that she would become the next big actress, but a chance encounter with a vampire and then Angel had changed those plans. She had gone from being a self-absorbed teenager to a selfless adult. The birth of Connor had taught her about love, sacrifice and responsibilities in a way that the visions never could. And now as she paced the bedroom she shared with Angel, Cordelia couldn’t help but wonder when she had become so domesticated.

As she continued her pacing, her stomach seemed to tighten in anxious knots as she waited for Angel. Connor’s birth had meant that Angel had had to work twice as hard, both to find his own redemption and to protect his son. It meant that he would often spend long nights away from them fighting demons, while Cordelia stayed at the hotel watching over Connor. Sometimes she wondered what would have happened if Connor hadn’t been born three years ago and how different their lives would have been if it hadn’t been full of prophecies. Perhaps the two of them would never have finally kissed and admitted the love that had been developing between the two of them for a few years. And she knew that she wouldn’t trade Angel and Connor for anything in the world, even if it meant that she wouldn’t be left with the anxious knots in her stomach every night while Angel went out and faced the dangers.
