When Hermione Granger had first returned back to Hogwarts from her short vacation with her parents, she had been extremely nervous about Severus Snape’s reaction to her. Although they had kissed before she had left, she was worried that during the time between her departure and her return, the feared Potions Master would realize that his feelings for her were merely caused by their close proximity. He had surprised her when he had pulled her into his arms, careless of who was watching. It had eased her fears and it had thrilled her to no end to realize that Severus was not ashamed of her or his feelings for her. Slowly after her return things had started to fall in place as their relationship developed and flourished.
And now as Hermione lay within the safe circle of his arms, she felt a level of peacefulness that she had never been able to achieve before. Severus accepted her for all of her faults and her strengths. He never asked her to change for his needs and desires; instead he allowed her the space and freedom to grow into a confident young woman following the end of the war. As she reached up to him and placed her lips against his, she reveled in the taste of him. He tasted of cloves, coffee, and a slight spiciness that she was never able to identify. It was a taste that she adored and she could never resist. As he deepened their kiss, Hermione knew that she was right where she was belonged: in the arms of the man that she loved and who loved her back.
