She smelt of an innocent blend of roses and vanilla, but it still managed to arouse him as he pulled her close to him. The few weeks that she had been away visiting her parents had been sheer torture for Severus Snape. Almost every single moment that she had been gone he had started to doubt her feelings for him. She was a young, attractive and brilliant witch her whole life in front of her, whereas he was anything but attractive with his sallow skin and hooked nose. He had lived a life of depravity and it showed, and he was afraid that when she was away from him, she would wake up and realize that her feelings for him were caused by close proximity and admiration.

Yet she had returned to Hogwarts after her vacation full of smiles and love for him and nobody else. It had warmed his heart in ways that he had never thought possible. A long time ago, he had given up on the hope of ever finding someone who could and would love him like Hermione seemed to. As she threw her arms around him and pulled him into her embrace, Severus smiled and let her hold him. He had been a fool to doubt her feelings for him, and an ever-bigger fool for doubting her sincerity. Hermione Granger was not a fickle young woman, and as rested his cheek against the top of her head and inhaled deeply the scent of her, Severus realized that he would have to stop doubting her and their newly formed relationship.
