Faith stood there in silence with the bright red handprint on her cheek as Cordelia slowly backed away with her hand against her mouth. They were both stunned by what had happened between them. Cordelia finally broke the silence.
“What you did to Wesley and me will never be forgiven,” Cordelia said coldly.
“I understand that what I did was wrong.”
”You tortured Wesley, that’s more than wrong. I don’t care if you found redemption or not, you’ll always be a psycho.”
”Cordelia, I’m not saying that anything I did or said back then was right. It was horrible and wrong, but I am trying to make up for what I did. Just like Angel.”
”No! Don’t you even dare to compare yourself to him. It’ll never be enough when it comes to you. Never! I only put up with you because Angel thinks you can be redeemed,” Cordy angrily said, “Just stay away from me.”
The Slayer silently watched as the former cheerleader stalked off and she knew that what Cordelia had said was true. She would never truly be able to make amends for what she had done. It had been stupid of her to try to apologize for what she’d done to Cordelia and Wesley, but Angel had thought it would do some good. He had been wrong about that and Faith couldn’t help but wonder if he had been wrong about her. The desire to run away was very strong but Faith managed to resist it. Things would be worse if she ran away, especially since she was on parole. If she ran away, she’d have the cops and the Watchers’ Council after her, something she could ill afford. Faith sighed in frustration as she wearily climbed the stairs to her room. All she wanted to do was avoid the others until it was time for her nightly patrol. The knowledge that it’d never be enough to make up for her past made Faith feel like she was a hundred years old. She wondered why she had even bothered to find redemption if she could never truly find it.
