fanfic100 for prompt #96 (writer’s choice). Set during BTVS Season Three. What if Faith had gotten cold feet about working for the Mayor?
Normally Buffy wouldn’t go to Giles’ apartment without giving him some warning, but she had found out some important information about the Mayor that she didn’t think could wait until she saw him that afternoon. Buffy knocked on his door waiting for a response. When the door opened, the sight that greeted her shocked her. Although she knew that Giles had seen women in the past, Buffy wasn’t expecting to see Faith opening her Watcher’s door as if she belonged there and Buffy didn’t. Faith’s dark red lipstick looked smudged and her black eyeliner was as sultry and seductive as ever, even though her clothes looked like she had hastily thrown them on. The brunette Slayer gave Buffy a smirk that implied things that Buffy didn’t even want to think about. It took everything in her to not hit the smug brunette.
“You just gonna stand there all day, B?”
”What are you doing here?” Buffy asked, the anger evident in her voice.
“Rupert and I had some business to discuss,” Faith seductively purred.
“Get out Faith!” Buffy snarled as her hands clenched into fists.
”I’ll leave cuz I was about to, not because you demanded it,” Faith said as her eyes became cold and hard, “But I’ll be back.”
Faith pushed past the other Slayer and left the apartment and once again, it took everything that Buffy possessed to not attack the brunette. She watched as Faith took off before she went into the apartment. After she closed the door, Buffy laid her head against the cool wood of it in an attempt to calm down. Anger wouldn’t help her right now and she took a few deep breaths in an attempt to relax.
“Buffy!” Giles’ voice broke through her calm.
“What was she doing here?” Buffy demanded.
“Faith? She came to talk to me.”
”After all she’s done to us, you just let her come and go?”
”Buffy, calm down it’s not like that.”
”She killed a man, she’s betrayed us to the Mayor, who else knows what she’s done.”
”Faith says she wants a second chance.”
”And you just believe her like that?” Buffy angrily asked.
“No, but after a long discussion, she’s provided me with some useful information about the Mayor. She deserves a second chance to prove her sincerity,” Giles calmly explained as moved towards the kitchen.
Buffy sighed in frustration as she followed her Watcher and watched him go through the preparations to make tea. She didn’t know what she could say but she still though that there had been more than just a simple discussion between Watcher and Slayer.
“She doesn’t deserve a second chance,” Buffy finally said.
“Yes, she does and I don’t think that it’s really your decision to make. It’s a decision of the Council’s,” Giles said as he turned to face her.
“What are you saying, Giles?”
”Quite simply, you’re too emotionally attached to the situation to make a fair assessment when it comes to Faith. I’ve spoken to the Council already and they’ve decided if her information proves correct, the Council will move her to England where she will be punished for her crimes. Faith is aware of this and she accepts it.”
”What if it’s a trick?”
”Then it’s a very elaborate one, and it’s a risk that we have to take.”
”You’re a fool if you think that you can trust Faith.”
”That may very well be the case, Buffy, but I failed her when she first arrived in Sunnydale. I refuse to fail her again, especially since she’s come to me for help. Now why are you here, I am sure it wasn’t to discuss Faith,” Giles wearily said.
