Summary: What if the Slayers had to fulfill their destiny in a world where the vampires are legal and everyone knows about the monsters?

In the past few decades, the Watchers’ Council had been behind on the changes that had taken place in the United States when it came to how the supernatural was handled. For the longest time, the Council had been able to get away with doing what they did best and watching while the Chosen One stood against the forces of darkness. By the time that Faith had been called, things had changed so drastically that they could not continue to ignore the trends in the United States. Vampires had rights under the law and Slayers couldn’t just go around slaying them, even if the vampires tried to end the world. Buffy Summers had been let off with a severe warning following her deadly attacks on the Master and Angelus. The Council could not afford to have their Slayers imprisoned for slaying vampires, so they had decided to have their Slayers trained to be legal vampire executioners.

That was why Faith Lehane now found herself sitting on the edge of a bathtub in a pristine white bathroom in St. Louis with a werewolf holding her down. The werewolf wasn’t actually in wolf form, rather he was in a very attractive human form but Faith tried not to think about him those terms. In her eyes and her training, he was still a potential threat as a monster. She didn’t really care if he was a lycanthrope or not, but she could ill afford to have problems differentiating the evil monsters from the good monsters. Things had been so much easier in Boston, when she had to slay anything that wasn’t human. It had been straightforward and she knew that a vampire wouldn’t have bitten her tonight if she could still slay them on sight. It was a cold comfort that Anita had been able to get an order of execution for the vamp that had bit her. Especially since Anita had told Faith that the bite would need to be purified to prevent the vamp from having control over her.

Faith’s muscle’s tensed as the executioner approached her with the first vial of holy water. Anita had warned her that it would hurt, and that it would hurt a lot, but Faith wasn’t prepared for the actual pain as the water was poured onto the wound. Faith screamed as it felt as if the wound was on fire as the werewolf pressed down harder so that she couldn’t hurt herself or Anita as the executioner poured another vial on the wound. As her body convulsed, Faith could feel the pressure of the werewolf’s hands, and she could see the look of worry on Anita’s face. However, it seemed as if her entire focus had narrowed down to the strip of flesh on her throat that was burning with the fire from the holy water as it met the taint of the vampire’s bite. And even though she screamed for mercy, Anita continued to pour vial after vial on the wound, until Faith lost count.

“Faith, are you okay?” Anita asked as she gently shook the Slayer.
”It burns,” Faith muttered as she slowly regained consciousness.
“We can take a break.”
”No!”
”Look there’s really no need to prove how tough you are.”
”I know that, but if we don’t finish this now, I don’t think I will be able to let you do this again,” Faith managed to say as she clenched her teeth as her body trembled from the pain.
“Oh,” Anita quietly replied.
”Just get it over with, okay?”

Anita nodded her ascent and looked up at Jason before she turned to the vials of holy water that were neatly lined up on the sink’s edge. The werewolf merely pressed his hands against the Slayer’s shoulders and whispered soothing words to her. Faith didn’t scream again, but her face paled as the water started to burn the wound again. She shook with the pain and Anita knew that there was something between the two of them that they shared. It was a hard price to pay for being careless like she had been, but Anita knew that the Slayer had decided it was what she deserved for having failed. Anita couldn’t help but wonder what the Slayer’s attitude would be like when she returned to Sunnydale and she had the feeling that Faith would probably stake the vampires she found and asked questions later. All that tonight had done was cemented in the Slayer’s mind that vampires were still monsters.
