Willow had been put on babysitting duty again since it was a Saturday night and everyone else had plans for the night, except the red head. And since Giles wasn’t exactly comfortable with leaving Spike alone in his apartment, even chained to the bathtub. So they were alone in the Watchers’ apartment and Spike was bored. Nothing was on television and none of Giles’ books really appealed to the bleach blonde. Willow on the other hand was absorbed in some musty old book on prophecy, and he wondered what could be so fascinating in the book.
”What are you reading?”
”A translation of prophecies,” Willow replied without lifting her eyes from the book.
“Why?” Spike asked as he moved to sit beside her on the couch.
“Giles asked me to read it, just in case there is anything in here that might apply to Buffy.”
”Doesn’t it ever piss you off that they all take you for granted?”
”What?” Willow asked as she finally looked up from the book.
”They take you for granted, Pet, and you let them. Why?”
”I would hardly call helping to keep my friend alive as letting people take me for granted,” Willow indignantly responded.
“C’mon Pet, who are you trying to fool here? I don’t see any of the others reading some stinky old book to keep Buffy’s ass out of the fire. Only you.”
”Everyone had a date, Spike, you know that.”
”Yeah everyone had a date, didn’t anyone stop to think that you might have one too?”
”I just broke up with Oz,” Willow quietly said.
”So even more of a reason for you to have a date tonight.”
”Shut up, Spike.”
”You know it’s true. They all go off to have fun and leave you here to make sure the bad vampire behaves himself,” Spike said as he ran his hand along her neck.
“Stop it!” Willow demanded.
”Why? Afraid of what I am sayin’ and doin’?”
”No.”
”Then why?”
”Because it’s not true,” Willow said as she pulled away from his hand.
“You know it is true. And I think it’s a shame the way your friends treat you.”
”I don’t want to hear this, Spike.”
”Well there’s ways of shutting me up,” Spike responded with a smirk.
“Like what?”
”How about you give me a kiss.”
Willow froze as she listened to the vampire’s words, as she couldn’t quite believe what he was saying to her. It was if they had been having this unpleasant conversation and all of a sudden he had told her that to keep him quiet all she had to do was do something that she had been daydreaming about for months. She shook her head in disbelief as the vampire pulled her closer.
“Just a small kiss, Willow, it’s not that much is it?”
”Yes.”
”No it’s not. I’ll be good, I promise.”
Instead of denying it again, Willow allowed him to pull her so that she was almost sitting on his lap. As they looked into one another’s eyes, she still couldn’t believe that it was actually happening, that she was about to kiss Spike. She leaned forward into him and placed her lips on his. There were a few hesitant seconds between the two of them as they were unsure of what to do. But soon they were kissing one another as if they had done it a thousand times before. When she finally pulled back, Willow started to blush in embarrassment that she had kissed him so passionately.
”No need to be embarrassed, Red, I won’t tell anyone.”
”Why?”
“Because I wanted to. Now hadn’t you better get back to that book?’
“I think I’d rather…” Willow started and trailed off, unsure of what to say.
“You’d rather what, Luv?”
”I’d rather keep kissing you,” Willow said as she hung her head in embarrassment.
”Really?” Spike asked as he pulled her chin up so that she was looking into his eyes.
“Yeah, it was nice.”
”I think we can arrange something,” Spike replied with a smile.
