In selecting work for my portfolio, I had to read a lot of my own writing. There's an awkward, self-conscious, masturbatory pleasure in doing this, so I tried to read it in a critical way, as if someone else had written it. This led to me noticing a lot of repetition.

I sometimes wish I'd applied for it, even just to mess about at the interview and suggest the strangest things, like renaming every male character 'Jim' in order to have a more realistic portrayal of Glasgow.

...not at a professional level wherein I get all the Benjamins yo, but I did spend 4/5 years filming stuff inside and outside the studio instead of doing my degree.

Now that I think of it, I'll answer the question of writing cliches.
My problem is that I'll try to write about things that I feel like I should have written about (exes) but never quite found a way that I was happy with, only to realise that I no longer have any strong feelings on the subject.
I did enjoy writing the skateboarding thing though, but that was a while back.
