Whew I sure am feeling better today.  So...

I bought a bicycle (and helmet!) on the way home from work this morning, and love it!  For now I'm staying on sidewalks, and if in the street, I ride AGAINST traffic.  At least until I'm competent at riding.  But it's really a joy to ride, and I will probably ride some more tonight after midnight.

Since I'm seeing hummingbirds occasionally, I bought a hummingbird feeder and the nectar for it, I'll probably put that up tonight when I wake up, as I'm scheduled off tonight but work tomorrow night (and then I'm off again Friday night).   Next I guess I'll break out the portable GPS, find a way to mount it, and track my miles that way (I've done that while walking, and it seems to be very accurate).

So far I still like the neighborhood.  Lionheart's gf's mom is in the process of buying the house next door, too, so our empire is expanding.  She's a really nice lady, I met her years ago when LH and F dated while they were still in high school.  She's from Germany, and has that kind of endless "improve upon everything you can touch" sensibility that every native German I've met seems to have.  Since she knows all about home repair, landscaping/gardening, she's already been tremendously helpful in giving pointers, and it'll be good to have her next door.  Dontay might end up renting half of the house, too, which would make me really happy (we tried to get Dewshyne to move down here, but her bf needs to be closer to his work).   Anyhow, I've met a half dozen or so people in the neighborhood, and people are not at all shy about stopping to say hello, welcome, etc.

I really thought that this was a very bad area, but it turns out that the bulk of the gang violence is in a housing project that doesn't really connect to this relatively nice little neighborhood.
