I found it funny this morning that half my torts class was IMing me the story at once. Token lesbian, whoo! I'm pretty sure they'll grant the motion for stay but it's still exciting. And Polk County isn't all that liberal, either.
Token lesbianism FTW. Although here on LJ, I think it's more like token Iowa-nism. I just think it's crazy and exciting that a random county in the middle of the heartlands decided that the marriage ban was unconstitutional. SO AWESOME. Even with all the liberal minded folks in this state, nobody has dared to make such an overt move towards gay marriage. Grr. Not that I even have any respect for the institution of marriage, but still.
Interesting. Washington is almost divided in half. West of the Cascade Mountains is mostly progressive, east is much more conservative.
I'm in the same boat you are with choice. Though I'm not against divorce, and I think that the idea of marriage as being a holy institution that needs to be sanctified by religion is rather... well. I don't agree with it, is probably the least offensive way of putting it. Also, I don't like that it's supposed to be the ultimate goal for everyone.
But I can put all my own personal issues with it aside, because it's not really about that. At this point, it's become about human rights. Just wish other people could see it that way.
