Thanks for the comments and advice. I've been leaning toward locating my original job description (I think it's on my home computer) and seeing what responsibilities it details. Not having a boss at the moment means that I guess I will be speaking to the one person who fills out our local HR department, at least to start with.
Apparently there is a major trend around here of people having more and more work placed on them without seeing either enough new hires to share the load or a raise in pay to make it worthwhile. So it might be an uphill battle.
But as you said, Matt, at least I will have stated my mind, so if I do feel the need to turn down requests from co-workers or look for employment elsewhere in the future, it'll be clear why.
And as you said, Sarah Beth, it does feel like complaining, but I suppose there are such things as justified complaints. So maybe I shouldn't feel so guilty.
Another thing I considered after posting this and then reading what you both had to say was that perhaps a portion of the extra things they're asking me to do actually do fall more into the realm of my job description than anyone else's. But I think, in that case, it's time to hire some backup for me if there's enough work there for two people.
