I haven't bought real comics in a while. So recently I purchased 4.
-Scooter Girl, By Chynna Clugston (I had the smaller books, and went ahead to get the collection.)
-Blue Monday: Painted Moon, By Chynna Clugston (I have all the other books, LOVE this series.)
-Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life Vol 1, By Bryan Lee O'Malley (He been on my friend's list for a while and I liked his sketches so I figured I should go check out his comic.)
-Maria's Wedding, By DeFilippis, Weir and Garibaldi. (I got it because the shipping would be free and it looked pretty.)
I loved them ALL.
All of them are printed by Oni Press and you can get WAY better decriptions of what this comics are about at www.onipress.com. Or click on the images below. I cannot summarize these stories well enough to give them justice.
Reactions to the comics:
Scooter Girl and Blue Monday: Painted Moon:
If anyone what's to know where I get my non-webcomic inspiration for drawing Candi, its in Chynna Clugston's work. The way she tells her stories with so much humor and depth really really really inspires me to do the same. I'm jealous of her ink and linework too...
Scott Pilgrim:
I bought the comic not knowing what it was about at all and was plesantly surprised. It went in a direction I really didn't expect and it was really cool. I enjoyed the musical lyrics and the weird quirks of all the characters. Scott's life is indeed AWESOME. I will be buying the next volumes when I get my next paycheck.
Maria's Wedding:
I also had no idea what this books was about when I bought it. But... wow.... It's mostly about family and what brings them together and apart and unconditional love. So good. I cried at the end. Favorite character? Nonna, the family matriarch. She's such a sweet little grandma. :D
