Blue and Gold Florentine Renaissance Gown, part 4

Too many things going on today that kept me from doing much sewing, but I managed a little!

I'm a little bummed that it is taking me so long to complete some sleeves, but I just had a jillion things to do today. I managed to sew most of the pearls onto one of the sleeves, the other will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm really not used to working this way-- little bits at a time--I usually just procrastinate until it's so late in the game that I have to get everything done in a marathon session that burns me out on sewing for months. Hmmm. I may have found my problem with productivity. lol.

So, the sleeves are coming together better than expected. I thought I had to make a running stitch across the linen to gather and secure it beneath the pearl. Turns out, I don't have to do that at all. It's actually better when I simply sew my pink dots together and anchor with the pearl. The linen just does the right thing all on it's own. The panes lay nice and flat and linen puffed up prettily from beneath with very little coaxing. In my opinion, I think I made the linen too wide, and the puffs are a little too big for my taste. They are fine, and I won't bother to make them smaller, but the next time I make this style of sleeve, I will try a slimmer panel of linen. Using even less fabric is better!

So, here are my pics for the day:

My new bar of beeswax, courtesy of damekaris and $1.25. Yes, notions junky. I never met a notion for sale that I didn't want to take home and cuddle. This beeswax, made by GloryBee, is just peachy. Thanks, damekaris!

Here is the work I managed to do today, sewed on a bunch of pearls, pinching the panes together over the linen. The puffs, of course, need more finessing, I'll save that for last since I'm handling them so much. I'm very pleased with this method so far! If I had a solid block of time to work on these, I think I could make the sleeves in a day. Of course, I haven't tried to do the top loopy bits yet, so maybe the quagmire is coming!

Have a nice day, everyone!
