I made a Renaissance Fan!

Now that the event is over, I can show off what I made!

My friend tudorlady was elevated to Laurel during this Twelfth Night, and I wanted to make her something to commemorate the occasion. I decided to make her a fan, since I've always wanted to make one, and this seemed like a good occasion to make it happen.

I made it with black silk taffeta, gold embroidery thread, black ostrich feathers, a fat wooden dowel, buckram, paint, pearls, red rhinestones, gold filigrees, gold initials and black chiffon ruffled ribbon, brass screw eye, lobster claw and pearl chain. Oh, and glue. Loads of glue. The embroidery was a purchased design that just so happened to match her coat of arms/bee/laurel thing she had going on. I got lucky to find it! I wanted to personalize it somehow, so I added her initials EB around the handle with purchased gold letters.

She loved it!

Here are a few photos of her wearing the fan with her gorgoeus bee-themed gown.  She looked really beautiful! I totally stole these from her Facebook feed, so SSSSHHHHHHH don't tell the photo police. I'll remove them if someone makes a fuss!)
