Summary: “Can you pass me a tissue?” she asked the boy for what seemed to be the umpteenth time.
Friends were the best medicine.
After waking up disoriented from a brief nap, Sakura tossed and turned, trying to find a comfortable position in the bed. She giggled at how pitiful she must have looked, all pale and dizzy underneath the sheets. But she had friends that loved her and visited on a daily basis; just that much seemed to unclog the congestion.
Today was Syaoran’s turn.
“Can you pass me a tissue?” she asked the boy for what seemed to be the umpteenth time.
He nodded, and handed her a light blue Kleenex from the bed stand. As much as she tried to think positive, chances were her fever had no intention of stopping anytime soon. Her ears were much too clogged, her eyes swollen shut, her nose dripping its own current, and her cheeks burning red under her frail palms.
She could feel the sticky warmness of her hands after touching her forehead. She was sweating. Exactly what she was afraid of. The tissue had served well.
“Oh. This is for you,” he made an awkward gesture with his hands. In his lap, there sat a fuzzy pink teddy bear with Meiling’s neat handwriting in a card: Hoping to see you in school again soon.
Sakura smiled weakly, holding the teddy bear up. “Meiling’s such a good friend…” she mumbled before turning over to the other side and coughing. It only took a few more minutes before she fell asleep again, covering half of her face with the blanket.
“Sleep well.” Syaoran carefully put one sticky hazel lock underneath her rosy ear, and finally broke a smile. Because he thought she was beautiful either way. Her puffy emerald eyes still captivated him the same; her smile was just as contagiously charming under the whitish hue.
But she would always be too naïve to know that. It would be better that way.
