It's been a couple of weeks. Life is in full swing with working, working-out and rehearsing. Every day is like I'm going here and then there and then there...never stop moving. I caught that little bug that was....is....going around the White Christmas world. But I'm much better now. Next Sunday I'm participating in the Tour De Livingston, with the 28 mile city bike ride, very excited about it. Got my bike out and up to shape and went on a bike ride today - that included the hill going up M59 up to Grand River. It feels good. Life is good.
Saturday I had a chance to see A Light in the Piazza, at The Encore in Dextor. And I just have to say it feels good to see a really good show. That show is hard to define, I'd call it an Operatic Musical Drama. It came out in....2003? 2004 I think, and it was such a breathe of fresh air in an era of poppy shows, this one had more roots from the 1930's musicals. It's such a beautiful show, and sooo good and unique, in that it's an unpredictable story that you don't know which way it's going to turn and go, and much shocks and 'wow's!" But the story is sold and so good and the music amazing, I hope Grettel comes out with more.
Now this production was sooo good. This was done in a small space, but excellently excuted. They used these panels that lined the stage with different peices of art work or sculptures from Italy, and the lighting on them (I'm talking about the red) was very affective in added to the mood of the show. As a director I enjoyed the use of tableaux throughtout the entire show it was visually pleasing to look at and added to the story telling. There were many times I was holding my breathe during this show in different emotions that were going through my body. Now having seen many productions at this company, there were alot of new names in this cast list. My praises go to out, number one the woman who played the mother - wow, that's all I have to say, her numbers were amazing, acting top-notch. And actually the monologue (what a wonderful piece!) was actually my favorite compared to her songs, it was....wow. And introducing this new guy who played Fabritizo (spelling?), his italian songs were beautiful and he's one amazing talented man who had a lot of us in the audianace fall in love with him. And my final praise goes out to his father - the song 'Let's Walk' was....just so much was communicated in that song, along with the rest of his scenes.
So.....that end another week....and I'm back up to life again. Ready to face the world and take a deep breathe and conquer what lies ahead.
