Holy shit, am I really about to almost do a year in review? I suck, LiveJournal. You've always been so awesome at being there for me to spew out my thoughts, and you've kept my life events archived chronologically so perfectly. My biggest regret- not posting an entry about Acen. I seriously am kicking myself for that. I have make a damn Acen post EVERY year since I've been going, and I didn't this year out of laziness. *smacks self*
Well, life in the apartment has still been good. We actually just resigned the lease, so we'll be here for another year. No telling what will happen after that, whether it'll be another apartment, staying here again, or even the thought of buying something.
So I guess I'll start in January! A crazy, totally fucked up month. Right after New Years, we started working on our next show, Gypsy, at work. Long story short, I was painting balloons with this stuff called Styro Spray, a glue-like substance. I was using rubber gloves, but I did get a little bit of the glue on my arm, in a couple places. I noticed that the glue was very hard to wash off, like, 10 times worse than getting super glue on you. I ended up getting a delayed allergic reaction to the stuff, causing my right arm to be completely itchy. Then my face became itchy, puffy and swollen. I ended up going to the ER twice for it, and the doctor as well. All this while still trying to go to work. It was so freaking awful. I was prescribed predisone, which worked, but then I got off the medicine and relapsed. Had to get back on the medicine, have blood drawn, was pumped with benadryl, had to coat myself in cortizone creams, and got a shot in the leg. Needless to say, January sucked. It took an entire month before everything completely cleared up.
In February we finally had our housewarming party. 20 something people came, and I had a fantastic time being with friends and getting drunk on Stella. It also reminded me that huge gatherings at our place were something that could NOT happen often, haha. February was also when the Michigan house first started actually coming together! I made a trip up there with my parents to look at it- it was only just drywalled at the time.
March brought the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, which was also pretty fun. It had some down moments too though...Eh, every year can't be perfect. April was a pretty crazy month, it began with work on Hairspray, the next show. Not only that, Acen came year this year in April, so I was left with little time to prepare my costume and any merchandise to sell at the AA table. It all came together though. Acen really was a good time this year. My big costume was Panty from Panty and Stocking, the anime. I loved the way it came out, and I even got a little photoshoot in it at the con. I made some good money, had some great times drinking with friends, and even stayed up til 4am, something I RARELY do! Yes, I'm old!
May, pretty much only notable thing was my birthday. We went to Suite Lounge, an underground lounge in Old Town. It was a really great place, but I do regret things about the evening. I definitely came unprepared by not eating enough for dinner. That only set me up for disaster later. Secondly, I got WAY too drunk. Some people may say that that's impossible to do on your birthday, but I did it. Drinks were just being handed to me, not even $1 left my wallet that night. Of course, that's all thanks to my awesome and totally amazing friends who kept me liquored up ^_~ It was all just too much though. What I really regret is not remembering actually having a good time. There are countless pictures of my smiling, laughing. The trouble is, I don't remember who I talked to, what we said, WHY we were laughing. It's all just a blank, and that's really sad to me. I don't get blasted drunk like that often, so I'll have to remember for the future that not having memories the next day isn't always just a thing you laugh about.
June began summer, and the countless events that come with it. Most importantly though, Tommy came to visit- for the last time before he joined the Navy. Tommy is seriously one of my best friends, I care about him so much. I wanted to be able to enjoy all the time I could with him here before he left! We saw the RuPaul's Drag Race show at Roscoe's, went for dinner and drinks at The Southern in Wicker Park (with Anne too who was also visiting!), and then had some killer margaritas and danced the night away at Side track and Berlin.
End of June/beginning of July started with 39 Steps, the straight play we did. The week of 4th of July was a little sucky because of work, but my 4th still ended up being plenty enjoyable, with BBQ, sunshine, friends, beer, and tons of water balloons and super soakers.
At the beginning of August, I planned a girls weekend at the Michigan house! We all had a great time, and I'd love to have them back. We went to the beach, drank at the house, had a fire, went to Saugatuck- overall very fun! The following weekend I went to Wizard World with Mariko which was great. I hadn't been to a con that I could just freely walk around at in a long long time. I even wore my Bulma costume, it was nice actually getting stopped for pictures again. Also finally made it back to the Renaissance faire after a 2 year hiatus! I went with my co-workers which ended up being super duper fun. We all work costumes together of course- ate, drank, and were overall very merry.
September...so returns that totally fucked up bat shit crazy month. There was more going on in September than I like to have in a 3 month span. 3 birthdays, 2 weddings, a baby shower, a trip to Vegas, and a tech and opening of a show. Not to mention a huge health insurance bill, your quarterly taxes are due, and all other bills you normally pay. September literally sucked my bank account DRY. But to back track a little:
Kevin and I went to Vegas, which was nice. I hadn't been since June of 2009, so I felt I was overdue for a visit. Even though it was Vegas, it really wasn't a "crazy partying" trip. We stayed with Kevin's sister and her husband (which was great because it was free) but they're a little older than us, and they have a 6 month old baby. We drank while we were there, but we never actually got drunk. We did EAT a shit ton though, at a bunch of really great places! You can never get enough of In 'n Out burger of course. I also highly recommend Baby Stacks Cafe, Bachi Burger, and Yayo Taco. We also got to do something I had been dying to do for years- see The Beatles LOVE Cirque Du Soliel show at the Mirage. It. Was. So. Wonderful. I enjoyed every blissful second of it. I was completely enthralled, breathless, speechless. In short, I loved it. On our next trip to Vegas, Kevin and I are contemplating actually staying at a hotel on the strip instead.
And now, October has finally arrived. My favorite warm, cozy month. We're already working on the next couple of shows- Singin' in the rain and Christmas Carol, and work for the Jeff Awards coming up the weekend after Galena. It will be a busy month, but I think we can handle it. I'm still making time for Halloween things, damnit! My costume this year is going to be epic- I've decided on a character that has been a part of my Halloween for many years. Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus. It's too awesome not to do, and I am almost wondering why I hadn't already done it! Plus, at work, my co-workers and I are planning some group costumes that include: Star Wars, The Avengers, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
Well, that seems to wrap things up. Let's see if I can make another update less than 10 months from now, hah!
