Please Don't Wear Puppies (Post about an issue Heather feels strongly about)

I am because I am really upset about the following issue that I was alerted to by this post: on Threadbanger.com. DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO!!! because it's really really upsetting.

This is the main article to read: "Is your fur fake, or is it Fido?" - it's about how a bunch of designers and department stores were carrying fur that was mislabeled as being fake when it wasn't, or being labeled as the wrong animal. One of the animals that a majority of "fake" fur is taken from are Raccoon Dogs (Tanuki, if you watch anime). This fur is gathered in the cruelest way possible, and raccoon dogs aren't protected by our current regulations because they aren't pure dogs, even though they are part of the canine family.

Right now fur labeling regulations only apply to products valued at $150 or more. "Reps. Jim Moran (D-Va.) and Mike Ferguson (R-N.J.) have introduced the Dog and Cat Fur Prohibition Act (H.R. 891), a bill that would protect raccoon dogs and require the labeling of all fur products, thus closing the loophole that has allowed the deceptive marketing of real fur as "faux" fur." There is a petition on this site: Care2 Raccoon Dog Petition that you could sign keeping in mind that it's the responsibility of the petition creator to pass on the petition so it's only as reliable as that person - again DON'T watch the video.

If you are in a letter writing moods, and you want, maybe you could write to your reps and ask them cosponsor this act? Or you could even call them. And don't buy fake fur, no matter how soft it is.
