ontd_startrek Dragon*Con Meetup Post

Jul 14, 2009 16:57

I think someone else started a post about doing some sort of improv-everywhere thing at 'con, but this is a more general "hey let's have a drink or some lensflare cookies or something" meetup post.  So, comment with your thoughts!  Simple meetup?  Dinner?  Drinks?  Foodcourt shenanigans?

I'll be there all four days, plus loading-in on Thursday as I work for the Technical Operations staff.  My staff shifts will be in the mornings and early afternoons, but I'll be available evenings.  I can acquire quantities of the infamous Dragon*Con Apple Pie, the drink that tastes like apple pie! (and then you fall down).  I'm up for just about anything!

ETA: Would anyone be interested in a bootleg screening of the movie?   I have a room in the Hyatt and could hook up my laptop to the TV.

ETA2: HOLY CRAP a lot of comments since yesterday.  This is going to be so fun!

SON OF ETA: OK, it looks like there's a general consensus that we should try to meet up for a panel.  Patrick Stewart and Leonard Nimoy will each have panels on Saturday and Sunday (one each).  The schedule that TrekTrak has posted on their site is wrong, so I'm not sure of the times and locations at the moment, but they'll probably be in the late mornings or afternoons in the Marriott Atrium or Hyatt Centennial II-III.

MORE ETA THAN YOU CAN SHAKE A STICK AT: Nimoy will now be there Friday as well.  Here is the latest I've seen:
  • Nimoy: 10AM Friday, 4pm Saturday, 10am Sunday
  • Stewart: 1PM Saturday (with Kate Mulgrew), 1PM Sunday
There are other Trek guests, of course, but those are the biggies.  They are all in the Marriott Atrium so they will not be live broadcast on Dragon*Con TV (we don't have live capability out of that room) -- but they'll be recorded and at least some will be rebroadcast later.  So we could try to catch one of them live as a group and the other one in a hotel room on DCTV if we wanted to try for both but couldn't physically make it to both.  The 10AM Friday Nimoy panel would for sure be the best bet in terms of a smaller crowd, but I don't know whether everyone will be there by then.

I'm going to let this post stand for another week's worth of meetup posts in ONTD_ST and then we can start really getting down to brass tacks.  I'll probably make another post with some polls and such so we can start planning.

By the way, if you've never been to the Miss Klingon Empire pageant -- GO. ;)

EDIT THE BILLIONTH: GO HERE AND MAKE WITH THE VOTING ALREADY SO WE CAN DECIDE ON THE MOST GQ WAY TO REPRESENT AT D*C!!
