When he steps into the sorting room, he takes a minute to kick mud and snow off the bottoms of his boots. He isn't certain where he's ended, but he is certain it doesn't do well to start by ruining someone's floor.

He's dressed head-to-toe in black leather, with a heavy cloak over it all; he's clearly wrapped for much harsher weather. On one hip he wears a sword; as he moves, it's clear that it's less that he wears the sword and more that he's never without it. It's as much a part of his moving as his hands or feet.

He keeps one hand on the hilt of his weapon as he eases through the room, keeping to the wall 'til he's satisfied there are no overt threats about. He's no longer particularly He moves to the center of the room -- the better to see -- and examines all corners, calling out. "Who goes? And what is this place?" He doesn't flinch when a voice rattles out a question, from everywhere and nowhere.

1. What is your favorite cheese? Why is it your favorite?

He lifts his chin and scans the ceiling, trying to find the source of the voice. Hm. There are no places where anyone of note could really hide. He answers slowly and thoughtfully, focused elsewhere. "The thicker the rind, the better to travel. That is really all I know of cheeses." This place... it didn't seem particularly threatening, so his grip on his weapon was easing. "As for why... I'm fond of useful things; that, I suppose, is enough. ... is there some reason for asking?"

His shoulders squared and now he was peering under the tables.

2. Who would you kill first, Barney or Carrottop?

His fingers tighten again and he straightens, suddenly. "I know not these men," he says, darkly. "And I will stay my hand 'til the stories are told." Older memories surfaced. "And I will see their faces, before they die."

3. What time is it where you are?

His feet shift; he is not impatient but he is certainly done with these questions. "Late enough I have no time for these games. Where am I? I demand to know what has been done with my men." Really, that's the greater question; as Lord Commander he is responsible for all of the Watch, and yet not a man stands with him. He can remember no battle, but he does not remember arriving, either.

4. If you were Albus Dumbledore returned from the dead, which member of the Order of the Phoenix would you sexually harass? How would you harass them? If you are Albus Dumbledore, please answer as if you were Sirius Black.

He stares, just a little. Rise from the dead? Do these here actually wish the wights to come upon them? Speaking of it is the same as wishing it, he thinks, and wishing it may bring it down upon them all. "No man returns from the dead whole. I assure you if this man had returned, he... no, it would not be thinking of that sort of harassment. As for the rest... I am sworn to the Watch. I will not participate... I will not pursue such interests."

5. If you are pushing to be in:

A. Slytherin - please state the clever, witty name of the bar in which you bartend, in the dark.

He lifts his eyebrows. "There is only one 'bar' I have ever frequented; Mole's Town is enough for me. I would not tend such a place. Each is made for their own purpose; I have found mine. But should it become necessary... hm." He looks thoughful and distant for a moment. "It lacks wit, but I should name it Ghost's Den. Separate it from the life I live now, but not from myself."

B. Gryffindor - Debate whether Harry should ultimately end up married to Fred or George. Use examples from a variety of world mythologies to bolster your argument.

It takes him a minute to puzzle out what the voice is asking. What he doesn't understand, he discards. "If Harry can not make such a decision, he should swear to the Wall and step away from that life. Clearly it is not for him." He hesitates, then, as the last piece falls into place. "... perhaps Fred and George would benefit from the oath as well. If circumstances are as I suspect, they would benefit very much."

C. Ravenclaw - You guys are supposed to be smart. Explain why my desk is inundated with paperwork at all times, even though I’m constantly disposing of it.

He requires 'paperwork' to be explained, but then he barks a laugh. "If you're anything like me, you spend more time away than you do any home. It gives it time to plan and organize. Missives, orders, letters from cities so far off they do not know to address them to me, as yet. Were they all to collapse, I would still recieve such 'paperwork' for weeks to come."

D. Hufflepuff - Prove you are not useless.

For so many years, he had been looked at with suspicion; these questions still bother him, no matter how much he would like to pretend they did not. "I am the 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. I have lived on the Wall, and beyond, with the wildlings. Is this sufficient?" The question rankles, just a little. Old wounds never really heal. "Well? Is this sufficient?"

6. Offer a bribe to the members of this community so that they will not squib you. Items used in bribery do not necessarily have to belong to the person offering the bribe.

"I only have that which I have always had," he frowns. "A strong arm, a sound mind, and a sturdy back. I will make use of them as is requested, if necessary to leave this place. Be warned, however," he almost smiles. "I have a great deal of honor and no wish to tarnish it."
